The Jackson Federation of Teachers, Paraprofessionals, and School-Related Personnel wants to be sure you’re ready for Election Day.
Save the Date: Election Day is Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Polls in Mississippi are open from 7 AM - 7 PM. As long as you are already in line by 7 PM, you are eligible to vote. Please do not leave the line until you have voted.
Are you registered to vote? If you aren’t, you can register in person at the Circuit Clerk’s office or the Municipal Clerk’s office, or you can mail in your voter registration application. The application must be submitted at least 30 days prior to the election.
Are you still on the voter rolls? Mississippi has guidelines for voter roll maintenance, and if you haven’t voted in a while, your name may have been removed. To find out if you’re still actively registered, visit the Secretary of State’s website. UPDATE: It is HIGHLY recommended that you call the Circuit Clerk’s office to ensure the most up-to-date information regarding your registration. You can find contact information here; click on your county to see information.
Are you eligible for absentee voting? Mississippi’s guidelines for absentee voting can be found here. Check them out to see if you qualify to vote absentee. Both in-person and mail-in absentee voting have different guidelines, so be sure to check those out. If you are overseas or serving in the military, you can find out how to request your ballot here.
Do you need to update your voter registration information? You can do that here.
Do you know where you go to vote? You can find that here. Please note that you should verify your polling place close to Election Day to be sure it hasn’t been temporarily changed.
Do you have proper identification for Election Day? You can find which forms of ID are acceptable here.
Though the Jackson Federation of Teachers does endorse candidates, we recognize an individual’s right to vote as he/she/they desire. To see which candidates are on the ballot this November, visit Ballotpedia.com for a list of candidates. We also recommend that you research all candidates listed on the ballot so that you can make informed choices about your preferred candidates.
