About Us

We are the only teacher's union located in the State of Mississippi. We have championed many victories since our beginning in the early 1980's.

We are currently a union of professionals from the surrounding Tri-County areas including: Rankin, Madison, Hinds and Jackson city schools.

We are committed to working within our communities to strengthen the working environments of our members and be the change agent needed to give our education system the rebooting that is necessary to provide our students with the best education available.

Who We Are

The Jackson Federation of Teachers was established to give teachers and paraprofessionals a voice within their working environments. We are a union of professionals that champions fairness; democracy; economic opportunity; and high-quality public education, healthcare and public services for our students, their families and our communities. We are committed to advancing these principles through community engagement, organizing, collective bargaining and political activism, and especially through the work our members do.

Our Goals

  • To achieve a spirit of cooperation among the school board, the administration the professionals, the paraprofessionals, the parents, and the public that provides each group an opportunity to contribute their full potential to the improvement of the public education system for our children.
  • To become the largest professional organization for teachers and non-certified personnel.
  • To educate our members in the rights and responsibilities of a majority professional organization.
  • To continue improving the working conditions for all school employees.
  • To improve the quality of education for all children.
  • To continue to promote special screening and treatment programs for students who show symptoms of behavioral problems.
