On Thursday, November 20, 2025, we proved once again what happens when educators stand together. A Federal jury ruled in favor of one of our Union members in a case against the Jackson Public School District (JPS), affirming the protections guaranteed under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
The jury didn’t just recognize the injustice — they awarded our member $80,000 in lost wages, benefits, and damages. That’s not just compensation; it’s a powerful statement that our rights matter, our voices matter, and our Union matters.
This victory is about more than one case. It’s about every teacher who has ever worried about taking the leave they are entitled to. It’s about reminding districts that we will not be silenced, ignored, or mistreated. When one of us is wronged, all of us rise to fight back — and together, we win.
We should all take pride in this outcome. It shows the strength of our collective action, the dedication of our legal team, and the support of our membership. This is proof that solidarity works.
Let’s carry this momentum forward. Every win builds the foundation for the next, and every member’s courage strengthens our Union. Together, we protect each other. Together, we win.
