Even in retirement, your passion for education and commitment to supporting teachers can continue to make a difference! Here are some ways you can stay active and help your union:
- Stay informed: The AFT website is a great resource for staying up-to-date on education issues and the union's work. You can also sign up for email updates to receive news directly to your inbox.
- Mentor new teachers: Share your wealth of experience by becoming a mentor to new teachers. The AFT offers programs that connect retired educators with new teachers, providing guidance and support during their first critical years in the classroom.
- Advocate for education: Retired teachers have a powerful voice! Contact your local representatives and senators to express your support for public education funding and policies that benefit students and teachers. Show up to board meetings and advocate for teachers and other school employees.
