If you're a retired teacher or school administrator in Mississippi, you can renew or reinstate your teaching license through the Mississippi Department of Education.
Renewing Your License
If you have a five-year standard license (Class A to AAAA), or a Standard Career Level Administrator license, you can renew it based on your retirement status.
What you need:
- A retirement letter from the PERS of Mississippi. Call 1-800-444-7377 to request it.
- The letter must be dated in the same calendar year as the final year your license remains valid, and it must be submitted to MDE during that year.
How to apply:
Submit your renewal application and documents (your retirement letter from PERS) online through your MECCA account: https://mecca.mdek12.org/
Reinstating an Expired License
If your license has expired, you can still get it back (reinstated) if you’re retired from a Mississippi public school.
What you need:
- A completed reinstatement application
- A retirement letter from PERS, dated for the current year. Call 1-800-444-7377 to request it.
Once approved, your reinstated license will be good for five more years.
